Le portail de la priorale de Longpont-sur-Orge : témoignage du rayonnement de la sculpture de Notre-Dame de Paris

The former Cluniac priory in Long-pont-sur-Orge, located in the department of Essonne in Ile-de-France has a Gothic portal dating from about 1235. This portal is known for its iconographical relationship with the portal of the Coronation of the Virgin at Notre Dame de Paris (1208-1220). The Longpont portal was partially reconstructed and completed at the end of the 15th century. We present the results of the 3D scans of the Longpont portal and the restitutions of the primitive state of the portal. This article also includes the publication of an unpublished sculpted head found in the Longpont town hall in 2023 and its identification as the head of a statue of Saint Peter from the right jamb of the Longpont portal. The characteristics of the jamb statues in Longpont are close to those of the Last Judgement portal in Notre Dame de Paris. The article demonstrates that the decoration of the western façade of Notre Dame de Paris had a considerable impact on the portal in Longpont, – structurally, iconographically and stylistically.
