Themes of research

L’atelier du peintre, Anonyme, vers 1835, (Washington D.C., NGA, inv. 1947.17.19)

Developing works and actions related to Art history from the Middle Ages to present days, Centre André-Chastel has been structured since 2014 into six transversal themes. It is engaged in new research dynamics, whose conceptual and interpretative issues are reassessed in the light of recent developments in human sciences, without renouncing achievements and experience of the laboratory in the fields in which it has established itself for a long time (collection inventories, catalogs raisonnés, corpuses and databases). The six cross-disciplinary themes, divided into research axes, concentrate most of the work carried out within the laboratory; each is placed under the responsibility of at least two permanent members of the Centre.
