ABOUT

Born from a shared passion for French decorative arts of the 18th century, the Fondation Ferrer, Lausanne, endeavours to promote this artistic and cultural legacy by supporting or starting a whole range of projects in several fields: research, editing, restoration and exhibition. Its support is mainly aimed at students and young professionals who want to explore new subjects or scarcely covered ones, which they believe worthy of being published. Furthermore, they could be the recipients of a prize for best research work submitted to a jury of highly recognised experts in the field. They will also be assisted in their project to be published and will have access to a documentation center on European decorative arts. The Fondation Ferrer has moreover the ability to associate itself with any project which aims at advancing the cause of this artistic production.

THE PRIZE

Each year, starting from 2024, the Fondation Ferrer will award a prize for a novel work dedicated to 17th to 19th-century French decorative arts, intended to be published in French. The said work – a Ph.D thesis or similar - will have to shine a new light on one or several subjects in French decorative arts to renew and increase our knowledge in the area. A specially selected jury has been assembled which will evaluate the individual works and choose the winner of the prize. This 20’000.- euros prize will be linked to the signing of a contract with an editor within 12 months of receiving the prize. This initiative is aiming to foster studies that deepen knowledge on French decorative arts, to maintain interest of the younger generations, and to support the most promising researchers in this field. The recipient will be awarded during an official ceremony taking place at the end of 2025. 5
